Quality gourmet products with a renaissance touch.

The Valencia Cathedral, a monument dating back to the 13th century, is not only a symbol of spirituality and impressive architecture but also a witness to the historical heritage that has endured over the centuries.

In this article, we will explore the connection between the cathedral and an exceptional product line: Herencia de la Catedral, which pays homage to the tradition and the Renaissance splendor that once adorned its walls.

Herencia de la Catedral.

Herencia de la Catedral is a product line composed of artisanal quality wine, oil, and cava. The inspiration behind these products comes from the rich history of the Valencia Cathedral and the tradition of the “Mesa común” or “Mensa episcopi”, where food was prepared for clergy, temple workers, and needy individuals seeking assistance.

Ingredients of tradition.

The raw materials for these products came from various places near the cathedral. Wheat came from nearby locations like Alaquás or Campanar, rice from the lands around l’Albufera, wine from the regions of Serranos, Requena, and Utiel, and olive oil from the mountainous region of Chulilla and Segorbe. These basic elements, bread, wine, and oil, were essential for several Church sacraments and were part of the cathedral’s historical wealth.

Herencia de la Catedral is more than just a product line; it is a tribute to the rich history of the Valencia Cathedral and the splendor of the Renaissance.

The legacy endures.

Although the course of history ended the ownership of these lands, the legacy of those times remains alive today. Herencia de la Catedral seeks to preserve that legacy by offering products made with the same fruits of the land and the same artisanal care that was practiced centuries ago.

The creative process.

To bring this unique product line to life, there was continuous dialogue with the client throughout the development process. Inspired by the Renaissance frescoes that once adorned the cathedral, the decision to use angels from the 15th-century Renaissance as the primary element on the labels was a collaborative approach that allowed capturing the essence of tradition and authenticity.

Musical angels.

The Valencia Cathedral, with its Gothic construction, suffered a tragic fire in 1462 that destroyed much of its decoration. However, the restoration of these paintings was completed in 2007. The Renaissance angels from the 15th century that surrounded the vanished keystone with the image of the Assumption of the Virgin bear witness to the artistic splendor of the era.
