Valencia Cathedral Archive presents a new website to showcase its historical treasures.

A treasure that covers eight centuries of history, includes chronological documents from the 13th century, very useful for researchers and scholars.

The Cathedral Archive of Valencia has created its new website aimed at making its documentary heritage known to all audiences and serving as a valuable tool for researchers and scholars. The Archive wanted to coincide this launch with the celebration of World Archives Day on June 9th.

This website, archivocatedraldevalencia.com, includes among its sections the classification chart of the funds that make up the archive, such as factory books, chapter acts, notarial protocols, correspondence registers, administrations, and other documents of the Chapter, with a chronology from the 14th century. It includes special funds, parchment documents (13th-19th centuries), the music archive, incunabula and codices, as well as private funds donated by various institutions and priests, and the content of its newspaper library and auxiliary library.

The website aims to make known the history of the Cathedral Archive and the work it does, as well as all the services offered to researchers and collaboration agreements signed with different universities and entities. In addition, a section of biographies has been included to learn about and pay tribute to people with a notable connection to the Archive and the Cathedral.

“The website aims to facilitate the tasks of researchers, […] which requires more than ever to seek alternatives to facilitate access to documentation without the need to go to the archive or simplify on-site research as much as possible”

Developed by Estudio Eurisco, this website is adapted to the latest technologies and designed to be consulted both by computer and by smartphone and tablet. Its design is based on usability and accessibility criteria, always seeking the user’s comfort and making it a useful tool for consultation and knowledge.

“The website aims to facilitate the tasks of researchers, especially in this time that we have lived, which requires more than ever to seek alternatives to facilitate access to documentation without the need to go to the archive or simplify on-site research as much as possible. Therefore, any user will not only be able to know from their own home what documentary and bibliographic funds are preserved in the Cathedral Archive-Library, but also request online any digital copies they may need,” sources from the Archive said. “The website aims to be an instrument to know the history of the Valencia Cathedral, and the diocese, including the most important documents of the Archive, ongoing research, new acquisitions, activities, and publications”
